Best Board Books to Own

"How could anyone get rid of books?!?" I asked my husband incredulously. We were newly married and looking through books at a garage sale. I love books. I have a degree in English and just couldn't imagine parting with books!

12 years and four kids later, I get it a little more. I find myself wanting to get rid of books. I haven't actually taken the plunge, but I think about it. Why? Because of space. I used to go to a used book store where you could load up on books for very, very cheap and just take any children's book that looked mildly interesting. Now, however, our book storage space is at capacity, and if there wasn't such thing as Kindle and eBooks, we would be needing to get rid of books ourselves.

With that in mind, I wanted to make a list of board books that I would never get rid of and would definitely buy again if I were starting all over again and wanted to save space. Here they are for you! This post contains affiliate links.

Sandra Boynton Books

Really, you can't go wrong with anything by Sandra Boynton. They have several boxed sets for her. Brinley probably liked Pajama Time as one of her best among those books, but again, you can't go wrong with any of them. You must have at least one of her books in your collection.

Karen Katz Books

Yet another author who is a must-have addition to your library. She has a lot of cute ones about the love between parents and baby. She also has fun lift-the-flap books and counting books. Any one of them is a great purchase.

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

This is a classic among the board books. It is written in poem and has interesting illustrations that vary from color to black and white. It is a soothing book that really preps your little one for sleep.

Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann

This is a cute story that my good friend gave Brayden for his first birthday. She is a teacher, so I knew it would be a good one. Most of this story has no words. Wordless books are fantastic for helping develop story-telling skills, so this is a must-have book to add to your library to be sure you have a wordless picture book.

This was McKenna's absolute favorite book when she was a little one. This one is fun because it teaches both colors and animals.

Good Dog, Carl by Alexandra Day

This is another book that is primarily a wordless picture book. This book is silly yet endearing, where a dog is left to babysit the baby. They have many fun adventures together.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

This is yet another classic book. This one adds learning days of the week as well as the science lesson about caterpillars and metamorphisis.

My Big Animal Book by Roger Priddy

This one does not matter so much this exact board book, though this is a great one, but the fact that it is a book with pictures of real animals. That is so valuable to a toddler or preschooler. They also LOVE books with pictures of real animals! So be sure you have one in your home library.

 DK Sophie books

This is one that can almost seem silly. Board books with the character based off of the favorite teething toy?!? Marketing at its finest. But the books are great. We have several and really like them all.

That's Not My...

These are fantastic books. They are touch and feel books and you can find them on just about any animal or love your child has. Dolls? Yes. Mermaid? Definitely. Dragons? Of course.  Check out the many options and find one that suites your child.

This is another where I am not set on one certain book. DK in general often has fun books, board books or picture books alike. This one linked is great for just learning lots of different words. It is a great way to build vocabulary. But look at all of their options. For example, they have a tractor one, a color one, a numbers one, a farm one, an animals one...lots of good things.

Favorite Stories in Board Book Form

Some books are family favorites that they have in made into board book form. That is great for little hands who might rip books. Sheep in a Jeep is a great examples of that. Others, like Ladybug Girl, take beloved characters and creat new adventures.

What are the must-haves in your home library?

Pinteresting Fridays: Awesome Baby Stuff

It has been a while since we have had a Pinteresting Friday! Here are some great things for babies.

Newborn Products: What We Used Month 1

As I was prepping for Brinley, I wanted to make sure I had everything I needed on hand for the early days so we wouldn't have to go to the store a million times after she was born. There are a lot of lists out there of what you need, but what do you really use? Of course, what you use will vary some from baby to baby. What you use will also vary from mom to mom. Hopefully this list can give you a better idea of what you might actually need and use in that first month with baby. Hopefully I can remember it all!

EATING
Your first step in your routine is feeding baby. This is what I used while feeding Brinley in the first month.
  • Nursing Pillow : I love having a nursing pillow. It seems like when Brayden was a baby, the Boppy (or generic versions that were the same thing) was the one option for nursing pillows. Now there is My Breast Friend, Mombo, and much more. What will you like best? I don't know. I have tried the Boppy and the Mombo. I like both. I find the Boppy better for sitting on softer surfaces, like my bed or my couch, and the Mombo better for sitting on harder surfaces, like my computer chair. What is your favorite?
  • Milkies Milk-Saver : This is cool. The Milkies Milk Saver is a relatively new product. This is something you put at your breast to collect the milk that drips out during let down. I think the company's product description is slightly misleading. They say it " allows you to breastfeed anywhere without worrying about embarrassing leaks or uncomfortable nursing pads The Milk Saver is easy to use simply slip into your bra cup on the non nursing side before you breastfeed. "  This product is rather bulky and large. It is not discrete. So it isn't like I am going to be bringing this to church with me to "slip" into my bra before I feed my baby. It is definitely much larger and more noticable not only to the touch but to the eye than a simple nursing pad. However, it is great for collecting the letdown. Then the milk does not go into your nursing pad, which means you change those less frequently and leak through them less (I haven't at all). It also means you collect extra milk. This is milk you can freeze and store. My question with that milk is do you use it to give baby a full bottle? I don't know. I would use it for sure to mix in with cereal or pureed food when solids time comes along. The thing I worry about with the milk is the foremilk/hindmilk balance. If you have a bottle full of the milk that comes out during letdown, there will be a lot more foremilk than hindmilk, which can lead to digestive issues for baby according to breastfeeding information. Perhaps this would not be a problem for the occasional bottle every so often? I am not sure.
Newborn Products: What We Used Month 1
  • Lansinoh HPA Lanolin : I love Lansinoh for preventing dry and cracked nipples. I use this a whole lot in the early days.
  • Newman's Nipple Cream: This is a prescription item. I LOVE this stuff. It helps ease pain, heal nipples, and prevent bacteria from spreading from baby to mom. I used this this time and did not get mastitis in my first month for the first time.
  • Lansinoh Disposable Nursing Pads : These are my favorite nursing pads. They can hold so much liquid! Just be careful you change often enough so you don't build up yeast.
  • Cotton Nursing Pads: I also have cotton nursing pads I use during the day. I do not at night because I leak milk in the night enough that cotton would not contain it.
  • Bravado Nursing Bra : This is what I used with McKenna, also. I like this because it has a liner in the bra that has some padding so you can't see your nipples through the bra. What nursing bra do you like?
  • Nursing Nightgown: I got a nursing nightgown from motherhood maternity when Brayden was a baby from my mother-in-law. I love having it. I like that I don't have to lift a shirt up and hold it up in the night. I eventually move to my normal t-shirt for sleeping, but in the early days, I stick to the nursing nightgown.
  • Robe: I put this on in the night when I get up to do night feedings. I find I get cold since I am often wet from all of the sweating (I hate the sweating!).
  • Fresh Baby Ice Cube Trays: I use these to freeze my breastmilk into cubes for easy storage.
  • Nursing App: I asked on Facebook what everyone uses and loves. I ended up going with Total Baby. I like it, but I am not necessarily in love with it. There are a lot of things I would change...maybe someday I just will make an app that I would love!
  • Burp Cloth: She isn't a huge spitter, but I keep one nearby because it does happen sometimes.
PLAYING
  • Gym: We got the  Tiny Love Super Deluxe Gymini Activity Gym for Brinley and I am super happy with it so far. It is great for independent play and tummy time. It also folds up easily, so I can put it away when she is done playing. I LOVE that feature. Oh, you could also hang any hanging toy you have from it, so you can change up the toys that are on the gym, which I think is nice for baby.
  • Bouncer: We just have the same bouncer we bought when Brayden was a baby. Nothing spectacular. Made by Fisher Price. We are obviously happy enough with it to not want to replace it. I think this is close to what we have (I don't think they make the one we have anymore):  Fisher-Price Deluxe Monkey Bouncer
  • Blanket: Just a plain old blanket. This works great for tummy time and just laying and observing the room.
  • Books: I also read her a book each day. We have a lot of baby books at this point in child-rearing. The one I have read the most to her is  That's Not My Puppy.
CLEANING
SLEEPING
  • Bassinet: So far, she has only been sleeping in her bassinet. I put it in her crib (we took it off of the base). I have tried one nap in the crib and she didn't sleep as well. It could have been a coincidence, but I am fine with the bassinet so far. It is more cozy for a tiny thing.
  • SnuggleU: She sleeps with her SnuggleU in her bassinet with her. I really love this for helping baby stay cozy while sleeping.
  • Microfleece Swaddleme: She sleeps with her Swaddleme. Since she likes to be so warm, we use the microfleece right now.
GEAR and SAFETY

  • Carseat: of course you need a carseat. I asked for favorites on Facebook and came up with three carseats. One from Graco, one from Britax, and one from Chicco. It was a HARD decision! I spent so much time mulling this over. In the end, I went with Graco. That is what we had for the older three and we had no complaints about it, so it was familiar and comfortable for us. With the older three, we had the smallest Snugride. This time, we went with the  Graco SnugRide 30 Infant Car Seat.  This has the aibility to adjust straps from the front still (the newer snugrides in the smallest size does not have this feature anymore, which would infinitely drive me insane). It also has the newborn insert, so the baby is much more snug and comfortable. Fabulous feature.
  • Diaper Bag: I get a new diaper bag with each baby. I just want to. I once again asked on Facebook for favorites. There are many, many options out there. I settled on  Skip Hop Studio Diaper Bag Tote Bag. I am very happy with it. It is not too big--perfect for one baby. I like that it looks nice--it could just be a purse. It has lots of pockets for organizing. The quality is fabulous.
  • Changing Table: I am a changing table person. I like them.
  • Glider Rocker: We have a glider in Brinley's room. This is where I do night feedings and the dreamfeed. We got it from Target 5.5 years ago. It is comfortable.
  • Video Monitor: This is amazing. You can use a  Foscam Camera and hook it up to your home network. Then you can buy an app and see your baby on your phone anytime, anywhere. My husband can see her while he is at work. I can have a video monitor with me at all times without hauling something extra around. The Foscam Camera is used for home surveillance systems. You can snap pictures of your baby sleeping with the camera, too. Love it.
  • Audio Monitor: We got a new audio monitor for Brinley. After browsing Amazon, we went with  VTech Communications Safe & Sound Digital Audio Monitor. It is a nice monitor--it does not pick up background noise, so you don't have the "shhhhhhhhhhhhhh" going on all the time, which is nice since we have an audio monitor for all of our kids. Three different monitor background noises can get old.

CLOTHING

  • Socks--and they sell some socks that are cute and look more like little booties or shoes than socks. I like those for going out. I want comfort first, and my newborns spend time in socks (unless they are Kaitlyn and hate socks).
  • Onesies
  • Shirts/outfits
  • Dresses
  • Sleeping nightgowns: I have my newborns sleep in  Newborn Gowns and socks for the first while. I like how easy it is to do diaper changes with these.
  • Bows and bracelets, too :)

MEDICATIONS

Necessary Newborn Items

There are so, so, so, so, so, so (and so forth) many baby items out on the market. You can easily fill your space and empty your account with baby products. And I know I am a sucker for baby stuff. I am typically a very frugal person, but when it comes to baby stuff, I see no price tag.

The question becomes, what is necessary for baby, what is a nicety for baby, and what is basically useless for baby? This can be a hard question to answer; I think answers can vary from family to family based on lifestly and also from baby to baby within the family. For instance, for Brayden, the swing was a nicety. For Kaitlyn and her reflux, it was necessary. For McKenna, it was useless--she wouldn't even sit in it happily for playtime.

Necessary Newborn Items

There are some categories that can be classified necessary. A baby needs food, shelter, clothing, and cleanliness. Even those categories vary a lot based on lifestyle and baby.

Let's say you are breastfeeding. Typically, all you would need is yourself and your baby.

Something I find necessary is Lansinoh. I have dry skin and live in a dry climate. If I didn't have Lansinoh, or something similar, there is a good chance I wouldn't be able to breastfeed because I would be too cracked and sore.

Some people might find something like fenugreek necessary for keeping up milk supply.

Some might find a breast pump necessary, some might never use it.

Some might want a nursing cover to nurse in public while others don't mind breastfeeding without one.

What about bottlefeeding? Which brand is best? Do you NEED the diswasher insert for cleaning, and if so which one? What about a bottle warmer? And what brand of formula?

So you see, there are so many possibilities to what is a must.

FEEDING
I do have a list of things I feel I NEED as a breastfeeding mom.
  • Lansinoh
  • Nursing Pillow
  • Nursing Pads
  • Nursing Bra
  • Burp Rag--though this was unnecessary with Brayden, a high need with Kaitlyn, and a nicety with McKenna.
I also have some things I find NICE, but I know I could live without them if necessary.
  • Pump
  • Bottles (just a couple--I only do one bottle a week)
  • Nursing Cover
  • Newman's Nipple Cream (prescription only)--this should probably be a need. This stuff is so great while you are establishing nursing and getting over the fresh pains in your nipples. It also helps prevent the passing of bacteria, so I am told. We shall see.
I also have some new products I will be trying out with this baby--input on those coming in a future post.

For further commentary on feeding things, check out Baby Stuff I Love: Nursing/Bottle Feeding Stuff.

SLEEPING
Here are my NEEDs for baby.
    Necessary Newborn Items
  • Crib/Bassinet/Pack and play: I need one of these things. I find others nice to have, but not necessary. Along these lines, I need a sheet and a mattress protector.
  • Swaddle Blankets: I view swaddling as a need.
  • SnuggleU: I wouldn't do newborn without it.
  • Monitor: The way our house is, I need the monitor. Not all people do. I find it invaluable to have a video monitor, though I wouldn't go so far as to call it a need.
Here are the things I find NICE for sleep.
  • White Noise
  • Room Darkening (curtains or blinds)--depending on child
For some babies, like those with reflux, you might find you need a sleep positioner and/or something to life the mattress.

DIAPERING
I am a disposable diaper person. NEEDS are simple.
  • Diapers
  • Wet wipes
  • Diaper cream
  • Garbage can
Here is what I find NICE.
  • Changing table with pad and changing pad cover
BATHING
Bathing seems simple enough, and for many babies, it is. The difficulty arises for babies with Eczema. Then the exact needs are more complicated. I will just make this generic. Here is what you NEED.
  • Somewhere to wash. I think different people find different things comfortable here. I like a baby tub (I will be trying a new one this go around).
  • Soap/Shampoo. The brand will be up to your baby's skin type.
  • Wash cloth
  • Towel
  • Lotion (I find it to be a need)
GROOMING
Here are some things you will NEED for grooming.
  • Nail grooming. You can use finger nail clippers or nail files...whatever you feel comfortable with
  • Brush: Your baby might have enough hair for a brush
  • Cotton balls and q-tips: You might find these handy for cleaning
CLOTHING
Here is a real trick. How many clothes, and what kind, do you NEED? The number will depend on how often you want to do laundry. You do need to remember that babies often have accidents--pee and/or poop comes out of the diaper and requires a wardrobe change. So if you want to do laundry once a week, keep in mind that 7 outfits won't necessarily do it for you. Maybe you want to do laundry every day, in which case seven should most like suffice.

My advice is to not go crazy. Remember these clothes right now will fit for about 3 months. Here are items I like--but I will leave quantity up to you.

  • Onsesies: I love onesies. For newborns, I especially like the cute onesie with the cotton pants. Nice and comfy and yet cute.
  • Footed PJs: I like them with zippers just because they are easier to deal with in the middle of the night. Doing up a ton of snaps at 2 AM is not my idea of fun.
  • Nightgown: I like these for newborns.
  • Zip up Sleeper
  • Socks
  • Sunhat
  • Warm hat
  • Outfits: You know--the cute things. The dresses, the pants and shirts...just don't go overboard--especially in the newborn age. You will find that when you are staying home for the day, you much prefer comfort over cute--at least I do. That is why I like the onesie/pants combo.
  • Jacket
  • Shoes: Shoes are 100% a nicety with a baby
OTHER NEEDS
  • Carseat if you drive in a car
  • Diaper Bag, backpack, or purse--something to carry baby's things with you when you leave the house
OTHER POSSIBLE NICETIES
  • Stroller: I find this necessary for my lifestyle
  • Bjorn/Ergo/Sling: Some people might find this more appropriate for their lifestyle, or equally as important as the stroller. Or maybe just nice.
  • Swing: Some babies might find this to be a need, like it was with Kaitlyn.
  • Play Gym
  • Bouncer
Wondering what you will need for the nursery? See my ultimate nursery checklist.

If you want an idea of the number of each item people think you should get, simply google "Newborn Layette Checklist." There are a lot of ideas out there :)

Reader Favorites: Baby Products

Some of my favorite products I have were recommendations from readers. Some examples that come to mind are the Pea Pod and the Kiddopotumus bib--which is now under the name of Summer . So, I thought I would do some posts asking readers their favorite products. I will do these every so often. Today, I am interested in your favorite products for babies 0-12 months. Favorite monitors, swaddlers, bedding...whatever you use for the baby. I am not talking toys or books today, just your nifty products you absolutely love and think everyone should know about.

Post a comment with what you love. You can paste a link or just type out the name. If you don't include a link, leave a description if you can; I will be moving these up to the body of the post with a photo so I want to be sure I get it right. A brief description on why you love it would be most welcome! Thanks everyone! (This post contains affiliate links)

My favorite thing is the Angel Care Monitor. I had heard from other moms that it was a great product, but there was no way I was spending $100+ on a baby monitor. Little did I know that peace of mind was worth every single penny! When we decided to move our baby girl to her crib upstairs, we opted for the monitor because it had an alarm that would go off if Katie stopped breathing. We had a few false alarms, but that was the best $100+ we spent on our daughter!!

My favorite item is the MilkSaver - this seems like it is more for mom's benefit, but it's also for baby's!

A few lifesavers:
aden + anais swaddle blankets because they let me swaddle my baby during the summer without him getting too hot http://www.adenandanais.com/

Here are a few of my favorite products:

1. The Miracle Blanket - my daughter easily broke out of every other swaddle blanket except this one. It immediately added 1-2 hours of sleep at night by keeping her from waking up due to flailing her arms.

2. Angel Care Deluxe Movement and Sound Monitor - the monitor detects movement and alerts you with a beep if it has not detected movement in 15 seconds. It saved us from checking her breathing a thousand times a night.

3. Fisher Price Space Saver High Chair - It fits into your existing dining chair and saves room. It's easy to take to someone else's house for a meal if they don't have a high chair. It's also very easy to wipe clean.

4. Boppy (or some other nursing pillow) - Besides nursing, I found many other uses for the Boppy: tummy time, propping baby up before she could sit up, and I even stacked 2 of them to help her sit up even more.

5. The First Years Milk Storage Organizer - It neatly stores milk bags upright and keeps them organized. The flattened bags are easy to remove and quick to thaw.

1. I just want to ditto what the other two readers said about the Angel Care Monitor. This gave me so much peace of mind and I would highly recommend it!

2. Homedics SS-3000 Soundspa Lullaby, White. I love this white noise machine and so does my baby.

3. Baby Bjorn Active. Emphasis on Active. I had the original, but it really hurt my back when I used it. I purchased the Bjorn Active and it was very worth it. The added back support helps so much when we are shopping, going on walks, etc.

My Breast Friend pillow - I know the name sounds funny, but this was a life saver for me, a first time mother. At my 2nd day checkup I was having trouble and I was using another popular nursing pillow and the hospital recommended the "My breast friend" pillow. I had some other issues but this pillow solved many of them. It allowed me to line up my baby evenly so I did not have to slump over. It is completely flat so your baby does not sink and is also clips around your body to support your back. There were even times that I had to get up while nursing and I could do that with ease.

For swaddlers, I loved the Kiddopotamus swaddleme swaddle blankets. They are SO tight.

I love the baby bjorn bibs... they are plastic, and dishwasher safe.

We used the Homemedics sound machine for white noise-- best invention EVER!

Boppy pillow-- life saver if you breastfeed.

I also used the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair and it's great. We still use it for our 16 month old, although I plan on getting him a different toddler high chair when the baby comes.

I also am going to put my stroller on here, because I have LOVED it from day one. The Baby Jogger City Mini. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It's compact, but bigger than an umbrella stroller. Strolls like a dream. I am planning on getting the double when baby #2 comes.

Can not describe how much we LOVE our baby monitor - Summer infant video handheld color monitor

I can't imagine doing BabyWise successfully with out it! It has been invaluable in CIO situations b/c I can see that nothing is wrong and feel ok letting him cry w/o checking on him. Yes it's expensive but it will save you many minutes/hours of stress! And, as a plus, it is SO much fun to watch your baby sleep and see the funny things they do, strange positions they get into, etc.

I am 2 weeks into mommy hood and so far my must have items are:
1. Medela pump in style breast pump. Saved me when i had sores on my nipples so that I could continue to feed baby breast milk while I healed.
2. I wish i had known before how much extra parts for breast pump come in handy.
3. Simple Wishes bustier for holding breast pump up, making it totally hands free and worth EVERY PENNY.
4. Baby Jogger City Select stroller with bassinet feature, or any stroller with a bassinet. We have used this as his primary bed and it has been fantastic.
5. A swing
6. Restoration Hardware blankets, for some reason seem to be the best swaddle blankets we have used. also love Aiden and anais since its so hot.

3. Phil and Ted's Sport Stroller (when you have your second baby)

4. The Ergo Baby Carrier. I'm still using it with my 9.5 month old (21 lbs) and I can wear it for over an hour with no pain, soreness, or tired muscles.

I have a top 4:
1) Angel Care Monitor - couldn't agree more with everyone that said it was worth every penny.

2) Baby K'Tan sling - now that Hannah is 7mo old she does a great job sitting in it and it makes a looooong walmart trip more possible (since you can move from one carry position to another).

3)Nose-frida. Seriously amazing product. You can suck a baby's nose and they don't even care... amazing!!!

4)My Brest Friend! I'm not sure I could have BF without it. I love that it is stiff and attaches to you.

Ohhh... I could go on and on. PS I love this blog!

Nikki said...

Oh yes! The Nosefrida ROCKS!!! How could I have forgotten that in my list of faves?

Erika said...

1. Miracle Blanket - It is well, a miracle!

2. Baby Bjorn Bibs - Easy to clean and no velcro to wear out!

3. Breathable Bumper Pads - My DD likes to jam herself in the corner to sleep and I felt much better knowing that she could breath through the bumper pad!

4. Amy Butler Nappy Bag - For those of you who can sew or who have someone nice enough to make this for you, it is an awesome diaper bag, tons of storage and it looks great. I had to adjust the cell phone pocket to make it bigger and I made an additional pocket on the outside of the bag for my keys and it is so incredibly convenient, I LOVE it!

One of the most helpful gadgets I was given for following Babywise was the Itzbeen timer. www.itzbeen.com. It keeps track of diaper changes, feeds, which side to feed on, sleep length, etc. There's an extra button to record other activities' length, which I use to time how long she's been awake, or Individual playtime length, or cry it out, etc. Very helpful for a younger baby, but I have used it throughout my baby's first year.

oh and the Swaddler, it has been a LIFESAVER that I can take ANYWHERE and baby will sleep tight.

Besides de Boopy pillow,I absulutly love the choliccalm homeopathy remedy for gas, reflux and cholics. When my baby shows the symptoms I will give him this water grap and literally only takes a minute for him to feel so much better!!it reduced a lot of crying! And nurses better. Colic-Calm Homeopathic Gripe Water, 2 Fluid Ounce

1. Ergo baby carrier. Pricey, but worth EVERY penny! I have so far resisted wearing my babies around the house (they need to learn to be happy without being held), but it's AWESOME for when you're out and about. Baby loves it, it's comfy for me, and it keeps my hands free to chase my toddler. Ergo Baby Carrier
2. Tommee Tippee silicone bibs (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3918130.) Others have mentioned similar products. I have owned the same 2 since my oldest son (almost 2.5) started solids, and they're still in great shape. Easy to clean, and they catch all the spills. My 10 month old uses them, and my toddler does for potentially messy meals as well (i.e., I'll skip them for a cheese quesadilla, but use them for oatmeal.) Tommee Tippee Explora Easi-Roll Bibs

I have to second the aden + anais Swaddle Blanket and the FridaBaby. We used both with our first born three years ago and now these two products are being used by our son.

Both my children enjoyed a floor/crib mirror. It was/is great for tummy time.

This vibrating teether was/is a big hit.

And this fabric teether is a favorite of my son. He loves to look at it and I feel safe letting him have in the car seat, etc... because he can't bonk himself with it.

Thees bottles have been great at helping to elevate my son's spit up/gas problem. They are a pain to clean, but worth it for us.

Comotomo Baby Bottle (I switched from Breastflow to these). Easier to clean, just like the breast and available on amazon. com or Target online.

There are so many options to choose for baby gear, but one thing that brought us the most peace was peaceful sleep. Two things that we loved were: 1) The Summer Infant SwaddleMe. They velcro so your baby won't wake up from his flailing arm. Been there, done that. 2) A white noise machine. I don't have a specific recommendation as we have had a couple, but I like ones that will play continuously. Some are on automatic timers (ie: ones that come with Pack 'n Plays), but you will want one that can run all night.

Our favorites are
1. We LOVED the angel care video monitor! Couldn't have done without it! We used the same one for both of our kids, and it just died after 3 years of near constant use.

2. The swaddle me wraps were great and quick/simple to use. We used them for every nap and every night for the first 4-5 months.

3. A snap and go type stroller base. We used a safety first one that worked with our infant seat, but the brand doesn't really matter. The ease of being able to just plop the car seat base onto a very light and compact frame without having to remove sleeping baby from h
er car seat was invaluable. I got so much use out of it! I was sad because I didn't think I'd be able to use it much with baby #2, but I've actually gotten WAY more use out of it this time around than I did with baby #1. Much easier than dealing with a full size stroller! Baby #2 is 10 months old and I still use this daily.

4. Baby Jogger City Mini- We move to this stroller once they outgrow the snap and go stroller. Used it with my first and am using it again with my second. It's 3 years old and gotten a lot of use, but it still looks great! Compact, great steering, easy to pop open and close. Love it!

5. Any type of strap on high chair. We have 3--count them, THREE Fisher Price ones that are compact and travel well. We keep one in our car to use when we are out to dinner or away from home. Most restaurant high chairs are gross! We have another that our toddler just outgrew and a more permanent one for our baby that takes the place of a high chair at home. Love them! I also love that there aren't any nooks and crannies for food to get lost in. We just wipe them down with baby wipes.
