Connecting Through Facebook Live

Facebook recently released a feature where you can go live and record yourself and people can interact with you while you are recording. There are no edits or retakes. It is live. This is a feature Facebook wants to push, so it is a feature Facebook will highlight.

You may or may not realize, but just because you have "liked" something on Facebook does not mean that you will see everything that page ever posts. You see stuff based on secret algorithms that only Facebook knows. Obviously the more you engage with a certain page, the more Facebook will show you things from that page. So when you like and comment on posts, Facebook is more likely to showadjust your Newsfeed preferences (see info here). Katrina at Mama's Organized Chaos went into this in more depth last week.
you content from that page in the future. You can also

Back to Facebook showing you things. While there are currently close to 11,000 people who like my page on Facebook, in recent months the Hash It Out Monday posts were being seen by fewer than 1,000 people each week. These posts have always been very popular. I know parenting isn't getting that much easier! So I decided to go along with Facebook and try the idea of Facebook Live for Hash It Out Monday. We tried it on a random day last week (last Thursday) and went with it again this Monday. A whole lot more people are seeing these posts than were seeing the regular Hash it Out Monday Posts.

Hash it Out Monday is a day I post a thread on Facebook for people to just ask questions. You ask, other readers answer and I also answer. It is super valuable!

If you want to participate in this, check Facebook Monday mornings to see about when I plan to go live. Then check in that time frame to catch me live. The great thing is if you miss the live broadcast, you can watch it later! You can watch and read the questions at a later time. You can add your own questions at a later time or offer more insights to people at a later time.

The way this works (so far as I can tell at this point) is I go live and you literally watch me as I am live. You can type in comments as I go and interact with me in real time. That means you can ask a question and I can answer it immediately.

After the live session is over, the video is saved to the Chronicles of a Babywise Mom Facebook page and you can watch it later. You can also see all of the comments that were made during the video. You also can comment on the video at the later time--so comments remain on even once the video is no longer live.

I am really enjoying the live feature! I am brainstorming other helpful ways to "go live" and would love feedback from you. Anyone have ideas you would like to see in a live function? I am excited to see where this takes us!

The video above is me live just yesterday.

Babywise Groups Online

There are so manydifferent groups out there you can join to meet up with fellow Babywise moms. Some examples are the Chronicles Google Group, the Babywise group on Facebook, and the Babywise group on Babycenter.

I know there are a lot more groups out there. If you are a member of a group you like, link it up here! Then other moms looking for a Babywise community can come to this post and find a group to join.

You can also leave a comment with info about each group and the interface it uses. Say what you like about it, don't like about it, etc.

PLEASE NOTE: The Chronicles Yahoo! Group has since moved to Google: http://groups.google.com/group/chronicles-of-a-babywise-mom?hl=en

Chronicles of a Babywise Mom Yahoo! Group

I have finally figured out a good way to share documents with those who want them! I decided to create a Chronicles of a Babywise Mom Yahoo! group. I have made it private so that all conversations can be had safely without the Babywise bashers out there jumping in.

You need to request to join. I will approve all members, but will quickly ban any member who proves to want to create trouble. Here is the link http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chroniclesofababywisemom/

I have uploaded the Sleep Log I am currently using with McKenna. I have more documents I plan to upload also. Hopefully this can be an easy and useful way for all of us to share information with each other!

Babywise On Twitter

For anyone who uses or wants to use Twitter, Babywise is now there. Here is the address: http://twitter.com/Babywise

Hank Osborne is managing this group. He manages several websites for the Ezzos. He is providing feed from Babywise-friendly sites on Twitter. It is a good place to go to connect with Babywise-friendly people out there. The Twitter page is just over a week old, so it is still a work in progress.

So check it out if you are interested! It is just another resource for you on the Internet for helpful information.

Other Online Babywise Resources

Here are some Babywise resources I have found online:

  • GrowingKids.org http://www.growingkids.org/: This site is a great resources where you can find current posts on Babywise principles. Gary Ezzo posts, as does his wife, Anne Marie. There are several other contributors. I have recently been added to the list. I find the site to be very helpful. The post include information from infants on up to teenagers.
  • I have started a Yahoo! Chronicles of a Babywise Mom group. It is private, but anyone can join: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chroniclesofababywisemom/ . As of mid-July 2009, there are 256 members.
  • I am a member of another Yahoo! Babywise Group. It is called Ezzo Moms, with 100 members. I think there are other groups available, also. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ezzo_Moms/
  • I am also a member of of a Babywise Group on Babycenter (babycenter.com). This group currently has 218 members, and growing quickly. It is a private group, so you have to ask to join. All requests are granted, but anyone wanting to bash on Babywise will be sent away. This is the most active group that I am involved in.
  • Ezzotruth.com (http://www.ezzotruth.com/). From this site, you can read a lot of useful infomormation on the facts of Babywise. It also addresses critics of Babywise material.

I am sure there are many other helpful sites and groups out there for Babywise moms. If you know of any, please feel free to add them by commenting to this post. If you aren't a member of any, please feel free to join. It is always helpful to have many minds helping you problem-solve.

If you are on Facebook, there is a good Babywise discussion group called I Love Babywise. It is an open group, but that ask that people who wish to bash BW stay on their own forums.

    1. Go to Yahoo.com2. On the left side of the page, you will see a list of links. Click on the Groups link.3. This page will allow you to search for a Yahoo group. Type in Babywise and hit search.4. The group is called Babywisemoms (the third one down when I search). Click on the link. 5. You will then be at the Babywise Moms Group home page.
