I focus on healthy/natural living, food allergies and raising my kids.

BFBN Blog Spotlight: The Mommy Teacher

At the end of every Babywise Friendly Blog Network week, we like to pick a notable blog written by a Babywise parent to spotlight. We like to cover a whole range of topics and introduce you to like-minded parents who have blogs that may be of interest to you. Today's spotlight is on The Mommy Teacher (themommyteacher.com).

This is a blog full of great ideas for learning activities to do with your children A great thing about this blog that I think is appealing to the general type of parent a Babywise parent tends to be is that she has a lot of information teaching you the "why" behind it all, with ideas (how) to incorporate these whys into your day.

Today, Jessica has a post on why and how you can do just one little activity a day. I love this reminder. I think in this world where we have so much information and see so many great ideas out there, we think we need to go over the top if we are going to do it at all. We think if we are going to do any sort of learning activity with our child, we need to spend an hour prepping it and perfecting it--it must be "Pinterest worthy." We then think we need to spend a good amount of time on the activity and make sure we take some stellar pictures along the way. But let's step back and think a moment--is our three year old really going to compare our creation to what we saw on Pinterest? No! So who are we trying to impress here? Not the child.

Jessica reminds us that we don't have to be over the top in "An activity a day can go such a long way." She says:
Most of the time, I sit down & think of a daily activity that I think my son would enjoy and one that I know can be used to teach important skills.

Go check out Jessica's blog and get some inspiration for your learning time!

My blog is http://www.goodenoughmummy.typepad.com. I write about the Mommy Wars about these things, and discuss what the evidence actually says. I would love to get more visitors.

My son was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect at 8 days old, so his story has twisted & turned what my blog is about as well - with his open heart surgery and everything else that goes along with it.
