Positive Attitude in Pre-Toddlers {BFBN Week}

In the BFBN, we love to find bloggers who are Babywise moms and highlight them for you! Today we are highlighting Lauren at TheMilitaryWifeandMom.com. She is a Babywise mom and military wife (as you may have surmised). If you are a military wife, you will definitely want to check her out! If not, she can still offer some great insight on various topics.

Today Lauren is talking about teaching a positive attitude in a child as young as a pre-toddler. It can be done! She helps you get ideas on how. Lauren says, "When we hear the world correction, we may initially think of the word punishment. Punishment at such a young age isn’t appropriate because pre-toddlers and toddlers aren’t old enough to understand right from wrong. However, correction also means to teach or train, and pre-toddlers and toddlers are capable of learning consequences through correction from approximately 9 months of age."

If you would like to be highlighted in a future BFBN week, please email one of us in the BFBN! We would love to check you out.

BFBN Blog Spotlight: The Mommy Teacher

At the end of every Babywise Friendly Blog Network week, we like to pick a notable blog written by a Babywise parent to spotlight. We like to cover a whole range of topics and introduce you to like-minded parents who have blogs that may be of interest to you. Today's spotlight is on The Mommy Teacher (themommyteacher.com).

This is a blog full of great ideas for learning activities to do with your children A great thing about this blog that I think is appealing to the general type of parent a Babywise parent tends to be is that she has a lot of information teaching you the "why" behind it all, with ideas (how) to incorporate these whys into your day.

Today, Jessica has a post on why and how you can do just one little activity a day. I love this reminder. I think in this world where we have so much information and see so many great ideas out there, we think we need to go over the top if we are going to do it at all. We think if we are going to do any sort of learning activity with our child, we need to spend an hour prepping it and perfecting it--it must be "Pinterest worthy." We then think we need to spend a good amount of time on the activity and make sure we take some stellar pictures along the way. But let's step back and think a moment--is our three year old really going to compare our creation to what we saw on Pinterest? No! So who are we trying to impress here? Not the child.

Jessica reminds us that we don't have to be over the top in "An activity a day can go such a long way." She says:
Most of the time, I sit down & think of a daily activity that I think my son would enjoy and one that I know can be used to teach important skills.

Blog Spotlight: Journey of Parenthood

Today's blog spotlight for the Babywise Friendly Blog Network is Emily Parker at
www.journeyofparenthood.com. Emily has been a long-time blog reader here. Emily is a Babywise mom. She is very open and very bubbly. She is a positive person who is very friendly. She shares all about her life and adventures on her blog. She is sweet and strong at the same time.

Today, Emily has written a post all about what she loves about Babywise. It is her brief Babywise story. She manages to be positive and real at the same time. My favorite quote from her post:

"I have often been criticized for using a book to help me as a parent rather than just trusting my "mommy gut."
I have a few things to say about that. One being that we are all called to follow a book for how to live our lives and that's called The Bible. We don't just wander around aimlessly with no purpose or direction. We use His guidance and direction as we are called to do!"

Go on over and check out her post and her blog. I am sure you will love getting to know Emily.

{Happy Healthy Mama} Blog Spotlight

Does this not look delicious? This is a Vegan Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Pie. You can get the recipe and instructions for this at Happy Healthy Mama today.

Today we are featuring a Babywise Mom Blogger who blogs on a topic other than parenting. Bethany, Hank, Maureen and I thought it would be great to introduce you to Babywise bloggers who have various passions.

Maryea is no stranger here; she has done a guest post on this blog before (see

Building the Foundation for a Lifetime of Healthy Eating). She has delicious recipes that are healthy and lots of great recipes for getting various nutrients into our children.

Today Maryea totally spoke my language: sweets. I love the way she writes and I love that she included some real chocolate in this recipe, "By the way, I know this could be much healthier without using chocolate chips.  But come on.  It's an ice cream pie made from bananas.  We can afford to have a few chocolate chips with it." Absolutely!

Go check out Maryea's blog today. I am sure you will find several recipes that strike your interest!
